Purity Herbs was established in Akureyri, in the year 1994. It’s founders were Ásta Kristín Sýrusdóttir and André Raes. Ásta Sýrusdóttir is now the owner.
The start of the company was purely coincidence. André had a hobby which completely occupied his mind: the making of creams, oils and teas made of herbs and other ingredients from nature.
After he moved to , he discovered a totally new world in connection with his hobby, because there he found an immense variety of pure, healthy and wild herbs, which were perfectly suitable for experimenting within his hobby. The resulting products went to his family and friends in order to let them enjoy (as a sort of guinea pigs) the testing of his product on skin problems and to improve the condition of the skin.
In the same period of time (1993), Ásta was working at a local nursery school. In her group of children was a little boy who suffered from a severe rash and eczema.
Ásta got permission from his mother to try out one of André’s herbal-creams on the boy. They did not have to wait for a long time… Results were quite clear and amazing. In just a few days the rash was almost healed and the skin looked as healthy as it should. This unique cream was called the ‘Miracle Cream’ and it still has that name.
The grandfather of this little boy, Bödvar Jónsson - a pharmaceutical chemist in Akureyri - was very surprised by this amazing outcome and approached Ásta. He offered them facilities in the pharmacy to work, test and start producing their unique product of nature with those healing powers.
Bödvar encouraged them to start a company, so more people would be able to enjoy these products… amongst other things: the Miracle Cream.
With advice from, encouraged and helped by Bödvar the Purity Herbs Company was established and the wheels started turning.
Today Purity Herbs produces more than 55 different types of natural products which are suitable for all age-groups & all types of skin.
The birthplace of the Purity Herbs Company: Akureyri - ‘ Pearl of the North’ - is located in the North of Iceland and is one of the purest and cleanest places in the world, which is reflecting in the pureness of the herbs that grow there and our products.
